But the city of Bern has not only shown its best footballing side at club level, but also at the World and European Championships. In 1954, the Miracle of Bern occurred when the absolute outsiders Germany defeated the favorites Hungary 3:2 in the final and became world champions. Not quite as far back lies the Orange Miracle of Bern, when the final round of the 2008 European Championship was hosted by Bern. The Dutch team conquered the city and transformed it into an orange sea of people.

In 2025, the next football festival is just around the corner in Bern with the UEFA Women's EURO, and the project team is looking forward to magical moments on and off the pitch. On the occasion of these Women's European Football Championships, the top women's nations will be guests in Bern and in another seven host cities for the first time! For the city of Bern, this means top-level football magic.

History of the Bern Women's Soccer Club

1970

The beginning of a revolution

Official start of women's football in Switzerland. The SFV allows women's teams to join a men's club. FC Bern offers its hand and accepts the women football enthusiasts into its club. The Damen Fussballclub Bern (DFC Bern) provides its own women's board from the outset and regulates its financial existence independently.

2005

The step towards independence

The Swiss Football Association (SFV) allows women's departments to apply for independence (independent association). The FC Bern Women's Football Club becomes the Women's Football Club Bern (FFC Bern).

2009

Collaboration with YB

On January 1, 2009, BSC YB and FFC Bern decide to work together to professionalize and exploit synergies in top-level women's football in the Bern region. What initially started as a name change ended on July 1, 2009, with the club's full integration into BSC Young Boys. From then on, the Bernese team will play in yellow and black and under the name BSC YB Frauen.
